About Rummy 500
Play two-player Rummy 500 with a 52-card deck and thirteen-card opening hands. Meld sets and runs during play, then lay cards off on either player’s combinations. A buried discard can be valuable, but taking it also brings every card above it into your hand and requires an immediate meld of the chosen card. This edition has no jokers or interrupting Rummy calls. Pip cards retain their number value, faces score ten and aces score fifteen, except a melded low ace in a run scores one. Sort by suit or rank, check suggestions and compare your melded points with the value still in your hand. The opponent’s pace can be changed without replacing the match. Progress and statistics remain in this browser.
How to play
Draw from the stock or choose a discard. Select at least three cards to meld a set or run, or select one to lay off on a table meld. Finish your turn by selecting a card and pressing Discard.
Rules in this version
- Two players start with thirteen cards each, using 52 cards without jokers.
- Sets contain three or four cards of one rank; runs contain three or more consecutive cards of one suit.
- Aces may be low or high, but K–A–2 is not a run.
- Taking a buried discard requires taking everything above it and immediately melding the chosen card. A single top discard is free to take but cannot be returned immediately.
- Cards can be laid off on either player’s melds.
- Melded points add and remaining hand points subtract at hand end. Once either player reaches 500, the higher total wins; tied totals require another hand.
Tips for playing
- Judge a buried discard together with all the cards above it.
- Look for one-card layoffs before deciding a card is dead weight.
- An unmelded ace costs fifteen at hand end, even though a low ace in a run can score only one.
Questions about this game
How is this different from Gin Rummy?
Rummy 500 exposes melds during the hand, allows layoffs on either player’s table combinations and uses a cumulative 500-point target.
Can I make a run longer than five cards?
Yes. Runs need at least three cards and can extend up to the full thirteen ranks of one suit, without wrapping from king through ace to two.
