ABOUT THE GAME

About Euchre

Take your seat opposite a computer partner in North American Euchre. This edition uses 24 cards, no joker, a ten-point target and stick-the-dealer bidding. Trump changes more than the order of the suits: the same-colour jack becomes the left bower and must follow trump, even though another suit is printed on the card. Choose Relaxed, Standard or Sharp computer play, go alone when your hand supports it, and review the last public trick before the next decision. Sharp estimates possible hands from its own cards and public play, rather than looking at opponents’ cards or the deal seed. Suggestions cover calls, dealer discards and legal plays. Set the bot pace, try the shared UTC daily opening deal or resume a match saved in this browser.

How to play

Team up with the player opposite you. Call trump during bidding, choose one of your six cards to discard when you are the dealer and the upcard is ordered, then play a highlighted card each trick. Reach ten points before the other team.

Rules in this version

  • The deck contains 9, 10, J, Q, K and A in each suit. Each player receives five cards.
  • Round one can order only the upcard suit. Round two can call any other suit; the dealer must call if everybody else passes.
  • The right bower is the jack of trump. The same-colour jack is the left bower and also belongs to trump.
  • Follow the effective led suit whenever possible.
  • Makers earn one point for three or four tricks and two for five. Defenders earn two for a euchre. Taking all five alone earns four.
  • A lone caller’s partner sits out that hand.

Tips for playing

  • Check both bowers before counting your cards in the led suit.
  • A lone hand needs all five tricks for its four-point bonus.
  • Last trick shows public cards. A difficulty change takes effect in the next match.

Questions about this game

Is this the joker version of Euchre?

No. It is the North American 24-card, no-joker edition to ten points, with stick-the-dealer bidding.

Do computer players know the hidden cards?

No. Their decisions use their own hand and public information. Sharp samples possible hands without reading the actual hidden hands or original seed.
