ABOUT THE GAME
About Chess
Play Chess in your browser against a lightweight computer opponent with three settings, or share the board with someone on the same device. The build handles legal moves, castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate and stalemate. A daily mate-in-one challenge adds a short puzzle. The computer is designed for casual play, not competitive analysis.
How to play
Choose a computer game or local two-player game. Select a piece, then a highlighted destination. Take turns as White and Black, keep your king safe, and aim for checkmate. When a pawn reaches the last rank, choose its promotion piece.
Rules in this version
- White moves first. Each turn must be a legal move that does not leave your king in check.
- Castling, en passant and pawn promotion are available when their conditions are met.
- The game ends by checkmate, stalemate or an implemented draw condition such as fifty moves without a pawn move or capture, or insufficient material.
Tips for playing
- Check threats to your king and loose pieces before moving; the computer levels are meant for casual games.
Questions about this game
