About Fox and Geese
Fox and Geese offers two very different jobs on a 33-point board. The fox follows any connected direction and jumps to capture. Thirteen geese move forward or sideways without retreating. In this selected variant, geese go first and win by blocking every fox step and jump; the fox wins at three geese or when the flock cannot move. Play either side against three computer levels or share the device. Complete-turn native hints, undo and local continuation help you examine the hunt without starting over.
How to play
Choose the fox, geese or local two-player mode. Geese make the first move. Select a piece and then a highlighted point. Only the fox captures by jumping. Following a capture, continue jumping or use End turn. A confirmation protects an active game when you start over or change sides.
Rules in this version
- Pieces move along the lines connecting the board’s 33 points.
- Geese move upward, sideways or diagonally upward along a line. They cannot retreat or capture, and move first in this edition.
- The fox moves one connected point in any direction or jumps one adjacent goose to an empty landing point. Further captures are optional.
- Geese win by immobilizing the fox. The fox wins with three geese remaining or an immobilized flock. These are this edition’s chosen conditions, not every historical variant.
Tips for playing
- Keep empty landing points behind geese under control. A neat-looking line can still invite a capture.
- Before jumping, inspect where the fox will finish. Mobility after the capture matters as much as taking a goose.
Questions about this game
Can geese move backward?
Not in this edition. Its thirteen geese move first and cannot retreat; other Fox and Geese variants use different movement rules.
