About Nine Men’s Morris
Nine Men’s Morris has three connected squares, but the important space is the route you leave open. Place nine pieces each, create mills of three along the board lines, then slide pieces between neighbouring points. A new mill earns a capture; opening and rebuilding one can keep the pressure on. This edition explicitly uses flying with three pieces. Choose three computer levels or play with a second person on the same device. Undo and local resume help you review an unfinished position, while completed outcomes remain recorded once. Game saves stay local and do not sync to your account.
How to play
Take turns placing your nine pieces. Three of your pieces along a board line form a mill and let you remove an opposing piece. When placement finishes, slide one piece to an empty neighbour. With exactly three pieces left, you can fly to any empty point. After placement, fewer than three pieces or no legal move loses the game.
Rules in this version
- Alternate placing nine pieces each; the board has no diagonal connections.
- Three pieces along a board line form a mill and earn one capture.
- A piece inside a mill is protected when another enemy piece is outside a mill. If all enemy pieces are protected, any can be captured.
- After placement, move along a connection to an empty neighbour; with three pieces, flying is allowed.
- After placement, fewer than three pieces or no legal move loses. This edition draws at three repetitions of position and turn, or 100 turns without a capture.
Tips for playing
- Build two possible mill closures instead of a single obvious threat.
- An open mill can be remade later to earn another capture.
- Keep neighbouring points available: mobility can matter more than material.
