About International Draughts
International Draughts uses a 10×10 board with twenty pieces per side on the dark squares. Men capture backward as well as forward, while flying kings travel across open diagonals. The longest capture is compulsory, without weighting kings more heavily. Play three computer levels or a local opponent. Enlarge board adds larger, horizontally scrollable squares; hints, board flipping and up to forty saved undo turns support careful analysis. Continuation stays in this browser, with no cloud-save adapter.
How to play
Select a mode and start a New game. White moves first. Pick a piece, then each marked landing square in its capture chain. Captured pieces remain obstacles until the turn ends. A man promotes only when its final landing ends on the far rank. Enlarge board helps with precise selections; arrow keys navigate playable squares.
Rules in this version
- Twenty men each on the dark squares of 10×10. Ordinary steps go diagonally forward; captures may also go backward.
- Capture is compulsory. Take the maximum number of pieces, counting men and kings equally.
- Kings fly diagonally. Captured pieces stay until the chain ends; crossing and leaving the promotion rank does not crown a man.
- No pieces or legal move loses. This edition implements threefold repetition, fifty capture-free king-only half-moves and ten- or thirty-two-half-move limits for its specified reduced-material endings. Tournament clocks and procedures are not included.
Tips for playing
- Trace every continuation before choosing a piece. A tempting short capture can be illegal.
- Enlarge the board to compare flying-king landing squares without changing the match.
Questions about this game
Do kings receive capture priority?
No. Maximize the number captured; men and kings count equally.
Can a man become a king midway through a chain?
Not here. It must finish the complete capture on the promotion rank.
