ABOUT THE GAME

About Alquerque

Twelve ivory pieces face twelve blue pieces in this browser edition of Alquerque. Its selected rules allow forward and sideways normal steps, with captures in any direction. A capturing piece must keep jumping when another jump is available; choosing the longest sequence is not compulsory. Challenge three computer levels or share the device with a second player. Native hints and undo support learning, while automatic local saving restores an unfinished board and its recent undo history.

How to play

Open New game, choose a mode and start. Ivory moves first. Select an available piece and then a marked point. When a jump is possible, jump the opposing piece to an empty landing point and keep using the same piece for compulsory follow-ups. Open the menu to read rules or statistics while the opponent pauses.

Rules in this version

  • Normal steps follow a drawn line to an adjacent empty point, forward or sideways but not backward.
  • A piece cannot immediately reverse its own previous normal step. This edition still permits sideways normal steps on the far row.
  • Jumps are compulsory and may go backward. Continue capturing with that piece until no further jump remains. There are no kings and no maximum-capture requirement.
  • Having no pieces or legal move loses the game.

Tips for playing

  • Examine the compulsory reply before offering a piece. A sacrifice can lead an opponent into a longer counter-capture.
  • Check the drawn diagonals. A nearby point is not a legal destination unless the board connects it.

Questions about this game

Are pieces promoted on the far row?

No. This edition has no promotion. Captures can move backward; ordinary steps cannot.
